Church Street

Church Street is an end of terrace cottage in the lovely town of Salcombe in the South Hams.

The house was in rather poor condition and needed a complete refurbishment.

The only salvageable part of the building was the external walls. Our team carefully removed some of the original timbers and stone which was set aside to be re-used in the renovation at a later date, ensuring that the essence of the building remained despite intensive modernisation.

We built this basement by under-pinning the existing property and digging down to ensure the correct height was achieved.

Our engineers installed modern underfloor heating and a contemporary gas fire. The newly designed and installed stylish kitchen complete with subtle lighting gives Church Street the modern requirements of a twenty first century family whilst retaining the nineteenth century feel of a traditional cottage.

Our expert stone masons combined established building methods with the latest waterproofing techniques by reusing all the stone that was previously removed from the internal chimney breast at the beginning of the project to build a stone wall extension.

The lantern light has given the extension a tremendous amount of natural light and together with the French doors, which open out onto the patio, this new area has been transformed into a beautiful yet practical modern family living space.

The original stonework façade of the house was brought back to life by our experts with traditional lime mortar pointing and the cleaning of the cobbled stonework together with the handmade timber door and windows.
